I don't have to, you've already conceded that there are 50/50No, I have not. I repeatedly stated that there is no 50/50 position for a push-out.
positions. Illustrating them is a waste of everyone's time.
You've also conceded that there are 50/50 positions at other times.
Explain why the shooter's odds change due to coming to the push.
As Bob has said repeatedly, no 2 shooters are exactly alike. Bob is talking real world. You are talking ozone or twilight zone. Somewhere unreal anyway. In your world you are right, I'll give you that.
Oh, and lest you waste your time repeating yourself, the choice of
returning the shot does not change the odds of winning the game. Just
as who gets to call heads/tails does not change the odds of a coin
flip. If a position is 50/50, then it's 50/50, no matter who
calls/flips.
Not the same at all as I'm sure you know Ed. Me thinks you are just trying to being cute and argumentative now Ed. Coin flipping is not a skill for most of us but pool is. In the real world there is no identically skilled players. I'm sure you realize this. For arguments sake if you cloned yourself then I suppose you would be right. Now please tell me how this helps you in a real game against a real opponent.
I never claimed that it was easy to find and push to a 50/50 position.
But you do claim it is possible and desirable. Bob and I claim it is so close to impossible as to make it undesirable.
I realize that unless the push-ee returns the shot to me I WILL be at a disadvantage.
Unless you've found a 50/50 position and pushed to it, you will
*always* be at a disadvantage after the push.
And since this will never happen you are always at a disadvantage after a push...which is what Bob had said way back in the beginning of this thread.
I do not believe in your 50/50 deduction because pool is not a math exercise.
On the contrary, pool is pure math. Both in play and strategy.
Everything is math on a micro level. Can you calculate ll the math in the world? Do you see the world in terms of vectors like a computer would? The art is in the fact that we can't directly see the math but have to "feel" it. This is another reason why attempting to find a 50% push is a waste of time. We all feel these things differently and none of us are 100% correct in this feeling.
Why argue this? In a theoretical world you are right Ed and in that world you will win your 50% of push games, but in Bob's world (the real one) Bob is right and will probably win more games his way.
