Re: Best Practice for 1pocket

OK, I understand you're just illustrating a point, but for the sake of argument :-)is this second kick the right shot in this situation? IOW, is that what you're shooting, for money?

I love the shot-making drills that have been posted.
But, how about some drills for the other half of the game? I like putting a
ball on or near the side rail, hooking myself behind a ball and then kicking
off the bottom rail to hit that ball without selling out. The scenarios
related to one pocket are endless.

I really love this one:

It's really a variation of a 3-cushion billiard shot. Again, the variations
are endless, but you can really get the feel for these shots after trying
them for an hour or so.

If you have the cojones to play that shot for money -- with the 9 so
close to the pocket -- I dan't want any :-)

might play the 1 rail
kickbank on the 9
but not the safe
If you don't get behind the one, you leave the 15 - 1 bank combo.

Yes. So please understand that I'm not necessarily advocating this as the correct shot in that situation. Rather it's only meant to illustrate the strength of practicing kicking off the bottom rail. I'll set balls up at random and try to kick into one side or the other of the object ball and observe the results. When it's laying right, the illustrated shot is easier to accomplish than it appears. Only by practicing these soft kicks do you develop the ability to make that judgement.
Here's another strong one pocket kick that comes up alot, for example:

But you have to have practised it enough to know you'll hit the correct part of the one.
