I just got out of the hospital today , monday I hemmoraged and lost 4
pints of blood , I had to have a colonscopy where they said I had
diuerticulitis (sp) , after I got a transfusion I am feeling much better
although I am very weak . If you dont hear from me for a while I just
wanted you all to know whats up .

Take care my friends ,
Tom S. - while they were up there they found my
car keys lololol !

Two friends had Diverticulitis, had surgery and both are and have been,
back to their old selves, for quite a while.

It sure sounds like Tom needs part of his blown-out colon removed, but
surgery should be the last resort for milder cases of this condition.
Unfortunately, all too many doctors reach for the knife first.

The colon's wall is populated by tiny sacs called diverticula.
Diverticul-OSIS is a condition in which diverticula become enlarged,
weakening the colon wall. Diverticul-ITIS is the condition in which
diverticula become infected, swelling even larger and exerting pressure
on the colon wall. Extreme cases of diverticulitis can result in
perforation of the colon, massive bleeding, and peritonitis or
infection of the abdominal cavity. The latter can be fatal swiftly;
think of being gut-shot.

Diet is the key to controlling diverticulosis. Eat plenty of fiber-rich
foods and take a daily fiber supplement. I had my excruciating and
expensive bout with diverticulitis in 1998. I opted to manage the
disease instead of having a foot of my six-foot colon ripped out. I've
had 3-4 twinges of diverticulitis since then, but about 48 hours of
increased fiber intake and bland, soft foods fixed me right up.

Oddly, one of the earliest symptoms of diverticulitis is BLUE BALLS.
:-) When I described the sharp pain near my appendix, she asked if my
testicles hurt. "How in HELL did you know that?!" I asked in in
astonishment. She said it was typical.
