I was warned a long time ago that it would be better to use an alias because of ID and credit theft,I used to post with my name and e-mail address in the early to mid 90's and was forced close that acount when I started getting around 3 - 400 emails a day and I once applied to win a gift from some consumer group that turned out to be a front for phishing or whatever they call it they gave out my phone number which lead to a shitload of telemarketers and my address which led to junkmail and also found all my info just floating around the internet along with my social security number and even got a phone call to verify my info from Chase Bank's credit card division and it was not me that applied ...

I had to change my phone number to boot ......

I have been posting daily for at least 20 years(closer to 35 if I
include ARPA net) under my real name. Both my address, plus my email
address, plus my real telephone number have been available on the net
since 82. A map to my house along with instructions on how to get here
has been online since 85. My desk machine is online 24/7, and hosts it's
own web page. I've been online 24/7 since 84 or so, starting with a BBS.

I've never any problems with *any* on the things you mention. Sounds
like paranoia, to me.

It sure as heck wasnt paranoia in my e-mail or my mail box or the credit card deal ,and its funny how it all happened , Once I moved (unrelated move) changed ISP which eliminated the email addy and am now more security conscious I dont have those problems anymore ,The Post master told me that people putting out their info on the net was a direct cause of unwarranted Junk mail and that people bought and sold addresses like a commodity ,I dont have those problems anymore and I dont sign up for free stuff on the net it usually coincides with more junk email ...

My good name is all I really have.why let some bums have at it ,I was Ratchet on the CB radio for 12 years and never had a problem so why not transfer it to the net ?? If I deem it necessary or some one I have chatted with and have come to respect wants my "personal" info I will
comply .why offer up everything you have for some *** to tear apart ??

Ratchet - hated waiting for 3 or 400 e-mails to D'L every frickin morning ,If I want a Gevalia coffee maker or Aluminum siding Or the best sex enhancing formula to date I will ASK someone about it !!LOL
