It seemns I am switching from my local internet provider (which has its own newsgroup server free of charge) to DSL. How can I still get to these great newsgroups for little or no money?
Free News-feeds are steadily dwindling.. Teranews' (free server) is one latest victim.
for "free" , You can always access all the NG's (web-based) through Google at : http://groups.google.com
and RSB directly through : http://groups.google.com/group/rec.sport.billiard?hl=en
It's an OK service, but is clunky and slow.. (what do you want for nuttin?) It also seems sometimes not to show all posts to a thread (for whatever reason? maybe all html posts, or binaries)
There are some inexpensive fee-based news-servers such as Newsguy, Giganews, Usenet.com, Newsguy.com ...etc..
try here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Free+News+Servers&btnG=Google+Search
Problems range from not being able to post or see binaries (pictures), Lag (several minutes to hours before your post shows up), and ease-of-use of their software/interface. Most require logins and user-accounts... (more spam-generating registrations)
Which DSL provider are you planning to get? Most high-speed internet providers still have news-services available (Road-Runner, Earthlink, Concast etc)
