Re: Time to move the NCAA basketball tourneys back to the 'sweet sixteen'!

I won't disagree, but I don't know why you're so certain. I wouldn't be
surprised if you had about the same number of people claiming the "best"
team didn't end up as champion. 'Course we'll never know.

Having the ability to absorb one loss and still win the tournament is a
HUGE change, IMHO. We don't see nearly as many people claiming the current
system is bad as we do with wobbly-ball, and if we increased the ability to
absorb *one* loss I can't imagine most people not feeling like that system
was more realistic than the one-and-done that we have now. But as you say,
we'll never know.

As I've said, I really like it the way it is. I would have preferred it
be kept at 64, just to maintain a better symmetry, but I understand why
they kicked in an extra team to account for additional conference
tournaments. I'd rather see the NCAA push for some kind of retrenchment
so it could get back to 64, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm on a fairly large rules-making body now, and we call the
not-so-technical term for this is a "take-back." Once you open the
proverbial door to something like this it's really rare you can take it
back. So yeah, I wouldn't be holding my breath, either. Unfortunately.
