Gator Alley was unkind to UK tonight as UK was blown off the court in the
second half of this one by a Florida team that looked bigger, stronger,
faster, in better shape and played better together as a team.

Indeed, Florida's Green and Noah could probably have carried the second
half off for Florida by themselves, the way they were playing tonight in
Gainesville.

Florida 95, UK 80, counting an unopposed last-second three by UK.

UK's still got a long way to go, and got into trouble in the second half by
getting away from the Sparks-Rondo 1-2 combo that they've been running and
which worked well in the first half.

(And maybe-- maybe we need another seven- footer.)

UK really misses Chuck Hayes.

I understand your pain. There is plenty of talent on the UK team and
Tubby is a very good coach (in spite of what some trolls might say).
There is something missing, though. When the Gators went on their big
run just to take a double digit lead after UK scored the first two
baskets of the second half to go up 6, you could see the look of
resignation in the eyes of the Kentucky players. The "fight" just
wasn't there. I've never seen that before with a Kentucky team in the
O'Dome. Is it a product of having too many youthful players with great
talent that haven't yet figured out what to do when faced with a
challenge?

I think that you hit the nail on the head. We have four sophomores who
are talented. Much is expected of them as it has been since their
first game. I still feel like Tubby will turn it around. The big
question is that this year or next year?

I figure this year.

In other words, fight hard, of course, constantly try to improve in game
performance, of course, but, strategically- speaking, shoot for March.

I still would like to see more of the Obrzut- Morris 5-4 combo.

Morris taking the pressure off Obrzut sounds mighty good, and Obrzut's not
a bad passer at all, whether inside, to the outside or even outlet passing.

He just seems to have a mental block against the old catch- and- stuff.

Obrzut really needs to work on his defensive footwork. 3 fouls in 4
minutes ain't too good.

IIRC, there was a bit of rooking on at least one of those, but he's had his
games where he has fouled badly and he's had others where he hasn't.

I wouldn't doubt that. At the game I was under the impression that the
refs started calling it a lot tighter in the last few minutes of the
first half and Obrzut picked up a few in a big hurry.

Alleyne and Carter OTOH seem to be MIA completely.

Shag might be a project that failed or other things are going on to put
him deep into Tubby's doghouse. He certainly is huge. Carter is young
and looked lost for the brief time he was in. J. Noah looked lost last
year for the Gators but has made a pretty big leap up this year, so
maybe Carter can learn enough in the off season to make an impact next
year.
