My understanding is that drinking harms your liver and
sometimes they miss apendicitis at first because the
patient is a heavy drinker.

That's when your liver switches to alcohol for a fuel.
You can't there with wine and beer, and you are correct
that is an extra and unique type of addiction. This is
where you need to get to get delerium tremens.

Among other things like vitamins, amino acids, and minerals.
