I don't much agree with the NCAA rule on this in general. The rule says
that a "fan or booster" can not give any gift to any scholarship athlete or
FORMER scholarship athlete for LIFE. Huh? So if I get to be buddies with
a UNC player I can't give him a birthday or Christmas present for LIFE?

Seems to me there needs to be some reasonable timeframe there...like four
or five years after graduation or something. Even that is a long time, but
it gets the point across of not being a useful tool for underhanded
recruiting.

(And yeah, I know that doesn't affect the current case at hand. By all
accounts Roy screwed up, even under my proposed change to the rule.)
