Seriously, though, OBP seems to have picked up a lot in the mainstream
media the past few years. Stations are now showing it every time they
come up to the plate, some Sportscenter anchors even mention it, Mike
and the Maddog (on WFAN in NY) even mention it sometimes. I can see
the same happening with OPS+

Fair point. I do think though people are anxious to jump at the "new"
thing, and think it's better because it's new. If the papers start
printing it, the sportswriters and announcers might start using it, and
then the fans who just like to assume that what The Authority says is
good will follow along.

I don't follow the NFL, but doesn't this prove my point? You wrote:

to believe." If the newspapers print OPS+ every day, wouldn't that be
an "authority figure[]" telling the people that OPS+ is worth using?
