One of the things that has made rsb such an enjoyable
newsgroup to be part of is that it has well established standards for
civil discussion. The regulars here are used to supporting their
arguments with factual evidence and well reasoned argument rather than
boldly stating opinions and vigorously arguing with anyone who disagrees.

funny, I've been a regular on many ng's for a decade now, on a wide variety of topics.

The thing that most stands out about rsbb is how vicious and *puerile* the regulars here are, especially when someone says something they disagree with or that cahallenges the utility of baseball statistics. I never saw such knee-jerk childishness even from the conspiracy theory types on the JFK assassination newsgroup.

You know the really funny thing? Sabermetrics was supposed to be such a game-changing invention that would lead to a new era of superstar hitters never seen before.

But in reality pitching is back and scoring is down, just as it always is during wartime, regardless of who is crunching what numbers.

So much for *that* theory <g>
