You can boot to Windows on that platform if you
need to run some app that doesn't run on OS X.

And you get to support two OS'es and still have the virus issues.

I run my Macbook Pro like this. I have 10 GB partition for Windows XP
and a 190 GB partition for my Mac side. I also run Parallels
Virtualisation which can now virtualise my XP partition while I'm
running OS X.

I have XP on my computer for my doodads that have XP only proprietary
software like my Garmin GPS update software. I also use it if I want to
see how a website I'm working on looks under XP and finally, I show my
friends who would never get a Mac because "there's no software for them"
or "my company says I have to use XP" or whatever. I rarely even let my
XP side see the intternet though and as of today, the OS X system has
been completely immune to any virus or spyware. (Yeah, I know there's
some "proof of concept" stuff floating around out there - but so far so
good.

As far as I know, no XP virus is managing to corrupt the OS X side. I
run all the anti virus, anti spyware stuff on my XP side 'cause it's fun
to see it find stuff. But there's no mainstream type application that I
know of that can't be easily run on a Mac. I'm also getting more and
more fond of the opensource source stuff the sourceforge guys turn out.

Blah. Blah blah.
