Popeye is finally getting the point. There is no absolute right to own
firearms in America as the Government can water down those rights. I
agree with Grumman that if you believe that there is an absolute right
to bear arms that most of these laws should be unconstitutional but it
seems that nobody is willing to fight for this absolute right.

There are those in the US who do not care what current rules might be in
effect and as such, they own whatever firearm that they want... They rely
on the fact that if you don't bring attention to yourself, the government
doesn't know about you and as such, no one says anything about it...

For example, current BATF (unconstitutional) rules say that you can't
have a rifle with less than a 16" barrel unless you pay a $200 tax stamp
for it... Some people pay the tax, some people don't... Considering the
potential penalty for not paying it, an argument could definitely be made
for paying it just to not take the chance... Some people don't though and
never bring notice upon themselves and as such, never have a problem with
the BATF rule... Some people don't pay the tax and involve themselves in
lifestyle choices that tend to bring notice upon themselves from law
enforcement personnel which then results in not only their being charged
with whatever lifestyle choice caused the initial notice, but also the
failure to pay the SBR tax (which is potentially more than the penalty
for the lifestyle choice)... It's all about money... The govenment tends
not to be amused when you deprive them of their money, even if their
claim on the money is in itself unconstitutional...
