There are already nearly 30,000 gun laws in the U.S..
don't seem to work very well to stop the high rate of gun crime
Well, -there- we agree.
Yet -your- solution is to have more laws?
probably won't work in the US, see my comments below
In general, and without special permit, weapons are already illegal to carry.
Criminals, who commit the vast majority of gun crimes, do not obey gun laws.
exactly why I questioned if tougher gun lasws would work
Sentences for felonies committed with guns are already ten years longer than the same crime without.
doesn't seem to be working
You're right.
But do you actually understand what the problem is?
Some states have an automatic 1 year in jail for the -slightest- gun violation (i.e.- possession).
In Massachusetts, that includes BB guns.
see above
You're going to have to identify the problem (the drug culture), and deal with that.
The problem is, Americans won't give up their drugs.
Also, parents are going to have to take responsibility for their childrens' actions.
But the plain fact of the matter is that you -cannot- keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
-Gun- crime in Australia may be down, but, crime isn't.
your point being what?
What do you think?
a lot but in relation to this I was asking your pov
My point is that Aussies gave up over a half a million weapons, for a fraction of their worth if any, for little or no gain in safety.
What does it mean when registering, confiscating and destroying weapons doesn't lower the crime rate?
didn't it? Care to back this up?
Sure- if you can back up that it did.
Here's a hostile cite-

Rear the facts and numbers -carefully-.
How many Aussie criminals turned in their guns, do you think?
I'm not going to drag you kicking and screaming along like I do Futile John.
no matter what you and your mates think you haven't done a very good job
That's your partisan opinion, but the facts are on my side.
Among several other points, -no one- here will debate me issue for issue on Gun CVontrol in general, or American gun control in specific.
Futile John has fled screaming several times, including just last week.
You're going to have to do a little thinking.
