Hold it there, I am not a hero and never claimed to be one.

No one said *you* claimed to be one. But as far as I'm concerned anyone
that has chosen the career or volunteers to fight fires, is an amazing
individual in my book. I find this more remarkable than working as a police
officer. No one should miscontrue my statement and thereby assume I have a
low regard for those that chose to be police.

I'm a volunteer
fire-fighter to protect my village and out of area assets ( and some other
things like MVAs ) working on the principle that if I help these people
they'll help me.

Well, that may be your principle, but you'll notice that many others haven't
offered the same back. It takes special individuals for this kind of work.

As for the annual appreciation banquet we had a BBQ up at
the local fire shed ( for the Xmas party ), meat supplied by the brigade
from our fundraising, please bring a plate or salad and definitely BYOG

Hmm, Bring Your own God??

Nah, you must have meant, Bring your own Grog.
