I've got a chart that says 3mm is fine for mid 70s water temps. Does that
sound right? I figure if I'm cold I can throw a torso jacket with a hood
over that. Does that make sense as well?
75 (24C) with a 3mil ? Brrrr rrrr brrr
My personal limits are
30C/86F and warmer : T shirt/swimsuit can work. 3mil shorty for protection.
28C/82F : 3mil shorty
26C/80F : full 3mil suit with seals.
24C/75F : Semidry, 5mm, and hood in the lower end.
21C/70F : full longjohn 6-7mm, with torso&hood, gloves
Pardon the silly question from this snorkeler. Are all these guides
using the surface temperatures as a guide for what you'll need to be
wearing at *depth* to stay warm? I just ask because I know I've gotten
away with no suit comfortably in the mid-70s.
Snorkelers have the sun on their backs to warm them up. Divers are
completely immersed in water and they stay immersed for 45 min to an
hour or even longer between sun breaks.
