heading off to Cayman Brac in the middle of the Hurricane season doesn't

Why not? In between hurricanes, you get some of the best
conditions.

Absolutely. The air has started to cool off from the summer heat, but
the water is still nice 'n warm. And with the seasonal summer /
winter shift, there's a balance/tipping point where neither one is
dominant, so its a time of year that you can hit the week where
conditions go utterly to glass.

And even if you do hit a TS/hurricane, they can create a 'vaccum
cleaner' effect where you're suffering with crystal blue skies topside
and honest 200ft visibility off the walls.

On the other hand, how about Fiji -- August is a perfect time to be there --
many more fishes and corals than the Caribbean--and it isn't the cyclone
season either!

What does Fiji have to do with Cayman Brac? For an east coaster, the
Caribbean is a few hours away, while Fiji is 15 or so. At least last
time, when you recommended Fiji in a Thailand thread, you were almost
in the same ocean.

If Fiji were only a 5 hour flight from the East, I probably would have
been there multiple times by now, along with a lot of other islands
out that way. The problem is that it isn't, so its not a reasonably
viable destination for me for anything of a week's duration or less.
As such, it requires more planning, more budget, more time off and
more leadtime. For me, that higher level of 'everything' puts it on
the trip list where it has to compete with Australia, the Himalayas
and Antarctica...which for scuba diving includes places like the Red
Sea and Midway.
