Others mentioned it already... prop wash. You will eventually drive your Torpedo in the same way, slightly below you. If you want to look down, you stop, look down, then continue on your merry way :)

I have seen some people drive a torpedo. It looks quite nice too. We were only unsure about the separate magnet as switch in club use (easy to misplace).

As far as I understand, that's how the Torpedo switch works. Quoting the manufacturer website:

"Switch

A magnetically activated reed switch, is designed for both safety and dependability. A magnet, convienently inserted in a velco palm strap, activates the switch."

All scooters are designed in such a way that when you let the scooter/handle go, the scooter switches off. If for some reason it doesn't, then depending in the situation, you either jam it into the bottom, and wait till the batteries run out, go around in circles until the batteries run out, let/cut the scooter lose, and wave bye bye :)
