Well, let's back up a bit. The original problem is keeping
his head warm. He's got a solution (toque) but it's
imperfect in that he keeps losing them. I don't think a
typical hood on a rain/wind shell, stowable or not, is going
to do much good keeping his ears warm. I guess I would tend
towards one of those fleece hats with a string although the
ones I'm familiar with would be uncomfortably warm, I think,
for temperatures above the low 20s. Another option would be
a hat that fits better, or maybe one with a cordlock around
the head, although again the ones I'm familiar with that do
that would be much too hot.
