I finally used these on my treadmill I bought last year just to keep my mind going during the run. At one time about 15 years ago I max my heart rate out at 186 or so this required basically an all out effort for about 1 mile after a warm up of about 10 minutes. Now at 47 my heart rate averages around 142 for a normal 8 mile run if I go at about 8:30 pace. I can get it as high as 166 probably higher but treadmill running is not like outside I hate to try and go above 8.2 mph for me that gets at times a balance issue. Only at the end of harder runs of about 8 miles does my heart rate climb int the upper 150's.
My resting pulse is about what is has been over the past 20 years 42 bpm when really relaxed. I don't what it means but I not a fast runner but plenty of endurance. The whole pulse thing is over valued I think listen to the body it knows.

At 52, my theoretical max HR should be 168. Whether I run 2mi, 5k, or.
10K, I end up "idling" in the low 150s - about 90% of max HR. So... is
this a Bad Thing (tm)? I'm not particularly tired or gasping for air
at this pace, so I've not worried about it until I started reading
some of the commentary here. My 5K times are just under 30mins and 10K
just a bit over 1hr, if that makes a difference.
Running for a year has reduced my resting pulse from the mid-80s to
low-60s, so the conditioning has definitely made a difference. My
recovery time is also reasonable - I'm back under 120 in under 5 mins.
Any reference or suggestions on this topic would be much appreciated
