I was actually going for speed (of course, "speed" can have a very
wide interpretation!!), and hoping that would make distance easier,

It works in reverse. The basic running paradigm is
base/power(hills)/speed and that order. Speed takes a foundation.

And let us pray for dat "redistribution". :)

A large old friend once asked a similar question whenhe started to run.
My pithy reply, when you can see your member without standing in front
of a mirror, or if no mirror, start peeing and not have to follow the
stream, backward to find the source. :) Toilet humor but.....
