That's not the issue. Kibitzing is more than welcome, that's
why we post here.

Whew!

Gotta be careful with that kind of a thing, Doug. I can
appreciate a cheap-shot as much as anyone, but you left out a
crucial part of Dan's post I was addressing: "Just trying to help
out here by advising that you properly warm up. Really none of my
business, I know..."

What fired you up. I cut out the rest beacuse I wanted to address the
simple fact that we do Kibitz, nothing more and nothing less. For a guy
that is Mr. Subtle it passed over your head and brished your hair.

Even if you are just firing for effect, you wanna make sure there
is some underlying honesty and integrity to your comment (and
context). Otherwise, it cheapens the experience for most readers.
Hope you know what I mean.

Talk about missing the boat... you missed the pier.

I found that any advice I get about running is something that
has to pass a sanity test and a rigorous field trial before
becoming eligible for inclusion in my own set of cherished
beliefs. With that approach I have found a surprisingly large
number of the commonly accepted beliefs to be less than
effective for me. Thence the source of my skepticism.

Seems reasonable but I wonder how you filter.

Perhaps I was being too subtle for you, but as I said above:
"...pass a sanity test and a rigorous field trial...". That is my
filter.

The answers are all around us, we just have to know where to look.

Way too vague and why I asked. Someone has to suggest or do something
that breaks into your gray matter and makes your consideration list. At
that point you "filter" and decide if it is worth a try and then prove
or disprove with experience. And just because someone finishes in front
of you is not necessarily good criteria any more than the person behind
you is a bad example.

I know people that should be finishing hours in front of me in a race
but run dumb and finish just a few in front. In do not want to model
that person. I'm sure you're clever enough to compose a similar case
where someone runs a smart race and only finishes a bit behind you when
he usually is way behind. I'm not impressed using the clock as a major
criteria.

A good coach or mentor may not finish in front of you on the clock but
can give good advice, do you ignore that person because you beat him? I
take great pride in mentoring people that end up whipping my ass. Does
that make a poor model.

You also have some notions about the evils of carbs, ok, some license
with evil, and state pointedly at the insulin roller coaster. My
question, have you had personal experience with this effect or did you
read it and "filter" it out?

My point, if not too subtle, <G>, we all have filters and some are good
and some are not. We all have preconceived notions that at times are
wrong or misguided or just don't apply. Not a reference to you
personally, but the generic you.

So of someone is naturally faster than you and still does
"unbright" things you will more likely follow him/her?

Shitchyea, man, wouldn't you? You are a competitive age grouper
-- are you more likely to take advice form the guys that finished
ahead of you, or are you tempted to take your cues from some
lardass that finished an hour behind you?

I take my advice from the smarter one!!!

But maybe I was being too subtle. Sometimes it's hard to judge
these things.

Mr. Subtle? :)

Except when I'm dealing with you. :-) I think you bring out the
worst in me. ;-)

Do I make you think too much? :)

But the best part about you is that you don't seem to carry a
grudge (well, maybe just a little).

Not at all.
