It's all about heat build up (what you wear, how skinny/bulky you are,
and how fast you run) versus heat dissipation (sweating rate, drinking
with proper salt supplimentation, keeping body weight steady, holding
cooled bottles in your hands, etc).
So it's mostly an experience/fluid/pace management thing, the way I
look at it. This is a long round about way of saying that you'll do
fine if you do what you know how to do.
Usually heat is not a problem as the weather typically cooperates and I
can get slowly acclimated over time. The price of poker goes up when you
can't get acclimated short of running in a sauna or extra clothes. For
instance a favorite is Bull Run in April which is typically 60-70
degrees and not too bad. When it jumps to 85 after you have been running
at best 50, it's difficult to adjust fluids/salt on the fly. I know what
I do under normal heat but the body, mine at least, does not behave
rationally.
While my primary concern is heat, the rain in the NE has been excessive.
It's not impossible to get both heat and mud all on the same day. Time
to create a pair a screw shoes for backup.
