I'm not sure what "marathon expenses" includes. But that's peanuts
compared to Boston.

There are a lot of marathons that are Boston qualifiers. One of the
most important reasons that runners like St. George for a BQ is the
course profile. Virtually all of it is a slight downhill grade.

Sure, it will tear up your quads if you're not properly trained for
dowhill running, but the steady downhill makes for a good shot at a PR
or a BQ.
