The applications I can think of for hydraulics on a coaster are for lift
motors and for lap bars. Hydraulic lap bars are not going to generate
much heat. But hydraulic motors can generate significant amounts of heat
for the same reason that you generate heat in an aircraft hydraulic
system. Lots of fluid pushed under pressure through small openings and
pipes will result in a warm fluid.
Ever go to a fair with a commercial exhibit and see some booth selling
shower heads or faucet aeretors, where they have their nozzle spraying
water into a circulating tank? That water tends to be hot, just from
pushing it through the circulating pump all day. And that's a relatively
low pressure circuit!
