Lighting "store bought" smoke.

I have some green Skylighter smoke mix.
Added the pot. chlorate and hand pressed it into a 15/16 ID tube,
about 5" deep.
Had enough left over to make a small length piece about 1" deep.
Rammed clay both ends.
I used about 1/8' of this perk prime on top before the clay plug to
make sure it started.
It worked, burned about 45 seconds, but didn't have the smoke output
like in the picture.
I hand drilled a 1/4" burn hole.
Should smoke comp be loose in a case?
Maybe plug the top and drill the bottom or the side?
Would just using a piece of visco lite it?
The big one looks to burn about 4 minutes.
