Re: More powerful (louder) "bird bombs"?

PVC pipe has a bad reputation for shattering when used as a mortar for
firework shells. HDPE (high density polyethylene) is preferable for
this use.

I'd sure be careful about using homemade salutes in any kind of hand-
held mortar or flare gun. There is a lot more potential for a bad
accident than with a simple illuminating flare.

Your recommendation of using a separate launcher for perfecting timing
issues is quite sound.

Thanks for the idea. I just kind of jumped into things without
thinking too much about the consequences. That usually gets me
"killed" in my paintball games. You may have just saved me the cost of
some damaged equipment or, worse yet, physical deformity or death.

How about materials for making that stationary launcher (mortar)?

I used PVC for potato guns back when I was a "kid" and, in retrospect,
that probably wasn't the safest situation either. It really doesn't
seem too safe to me with gunpowder.

How about plumbing pipe? Any other ideas?
