Folks,
For those of you who aren't currently members of PGI, beg, borrow or
otherwise obtain copies of PGI bulletins 152-155. These 4 bulletins
contain the just-now completed four part series "Nice Shells in 2 1/2
days" that outline Ned's 60 hour project to scratch build a pair of 8"
Tiger Willow ball shells. Starting with the preparation of charcoal
and proceeding through the manufacture of lift, black match, burst and
stars, Ned provides an impressive tour de force of the shell maker's
art fashioning a couple of very nice shells from rather ordinary
materials. As a bonus, the four part project article is well written
and organized and accompanied by a generous selection of photographs.
Highly recommended to all!

Thanks for the kind words, Tom. It was an interesting project and I'm
glad others are finding it entertaining and useful.
Take care,

Ned, I second Tom's enthusiastic recommendation also! I meant to
mention that after reading part 1 in the previous bulletin. Very
concise and painstakingly detailed and there's lots of good stuff in
there for experienced shell builders too. For someone who wants to
learn to build a beautiful tigertail 8" ball shell with nothing more
than saltpetre, charcoal and sulfur, paper, paste and string (for the
match) this is a gem and fo folks who are not PGI members, a good
reason to join. The PGI bulletin has come a long way since Van typed
that first issue of PYRONEWS back in 1967. (All my issues from that
date forward are still carefully preserved, as these will be too).
