Phil, in defense of other seller, there was once a time when if you
consumed too much "bandwidth" in a post that offered something for
sale, even something quite topical to the newsgroup, you were soundly
criticized. (I'm thinking of the days when we all accessed the
newsgroups via a dial-up ISP with a Unix Shell account...and many
people had to pay by the byte for what they downloaded and read.) Of
course those days are gone forever, at least for most newsgroup
readers, and Unix Shell accounts from an ISP have largely become
history.
Still, there are some readers who still post in this very terse manner
for the above reason, and others who simply post in a very terse
manner or simply because they type very slowly having never learned to
touch type.
Whatever... I've recently sold a few books here, and I've tried to
both identify them and their condition just as precisely as I can.
Bandwidth is almost not a factor today...but an accurate and complete
description of what you are selling is needed, as you point out. I try
to do this, and as a result I've sold everything that I have posted,
except for Tom Dimock's "Girondola" video from AFN. Since this
newsgroup has arguably the largest concentration of pyrotechnics
enthusiast anywhere, it is a very fertile place to offer pyro related
items for sale.
I only offer pryo items for sale on eBay, after I've first offered
them for sale here. This in turn saves both the buyers and myself
quite a bit of a saving. I like PayPal, becasue it is so fast (andthe
small percentage they take are insignificant) and use Priority Mail
shipments of books and similar items. I live to see a buyer receive
his purchases as quickly as possible, mostly because this is what I
appreciate when I purchase something on the net. I also don't like
unpleasant surprises, since I have been know to purchase some large
ticket items.
Regarding pricing, when considering the sell prices I ask for items
being currently produced and offered as new by major sellers, I
generally set a price somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 the price of a
"like new" condition item. After all, I've had my fun viewing or
reading it, but their is the consideration of depreciaton. On
collectable item that are no longer available new, or have a historic
interest, then the price is negotiable between the seller and
myself...
Based on the above guideline, I've had received equally good feedback
on items I have offered for sale on the newsgroup, as on eBay where my
feedback is a positive 100% on something approaching or passing 300
eBay transactions.
Phil, I own a near-mint condition copys of early Davis, Lancaster, and
Weingart texts, and to be perfectly honest, I would have no idea what
price to ask for them since I've owned them since the late 1950s. Were
I to sell them (which I am not planning to do), I'd probably consult
with Warren K. or Mike S. before offering them at a fixed
price....that's what auctions and appraisers are for. On the other
hand, I have a copy of Lancaster's 4th edition, and were I to sell
that, I'd likely ask about 60% of it's current retail price having
already had my way with it.
I personally feel for the current seller. He is disposing of a rather
nice collection of contemporary fireworks texts, and while I have no
idea of the prices he is asking or if they are realistic, it seems to
be to be worth a look by most of the readers here. I'm only sorry that
he did not price them out, and offer them here before posting them on
eBay.
Harry C.
p.s., Yes, the sellers list includes some crap, but a lot of gems as
well. I do believe that Warren K. just overstated, which all of us are
inclided to do once in a while.

Dave,
My bad. It has been a while since I have been on one of these
messaging boards.
I am in the states. Some of the equipment can be shipped. However, I
don't
want to ship my ball mill nor my powder die. I also don't want to
ship the obvious
chems that would cause a problem. I have many lbs. of chems and many
many
boxes of equipment. If people are interested I will send lists of
supplies. However,
I would like to keep it some what personal. Please email in person.
Thanks
