Red Phos. or substitute

I am new to the pyrotechnics/special effects hobby so please be
patient with my ignorance to some concepts.

In short, what I am looking to do is create a friction ignitor of
sorts. I am looking to make an impact sensitive special effect. Most
of the literature I have found on such suggests the use of red
phosphorus and a chlorate. I realize this is extremely dangerous and
that obtaining RP is near impossible.

I guess to make a long question short ( Too late! I know!): Is there a
way to procure RP from a common item or are there any alternative
mixtures that can be used, preferably safer alternatives?
I have heard that RP can be obtained from such things as matches or
road flares, but have never seen any info on how to do so or how to do
so safely.

I apologize if this is outside the scope of this group or if it has
been covered previously. I searched the group for "Red Phosphorus" but
found little info other than a few rants and flames.

Also, if anyone has a source for such info on Pyrotechnics or Special
Effects be it a book, website, etc.. I would love to know about it.

Thanks in advance for any reply!

Tony
