A high volume dealer does not need to charge four to six times the

You all know he is overcharging even with the overhead. IF there were
competition, the costs would come down.

Well, there's your opportunity. Put up the capital, and go into the
business yourself. If Harry is overcharging people so badly you should
be able to take all those sales away from him and make a tidy sum for
yourself. If you're not willing to do that then you'll just have to
grin and bear it.

I am of the same mind on this point as Mr. Ruether who noted that some
people seem to think that 'profit' is a swear word. That's not so.
Profit is a healthy and normal thing. If businesses do not make
profits they cease to exist. The jobs of their employees cease to
exist. Their customers cease to have access to their products or
services. It is a loss for everyone concerned. You should hope that
the vendors with whom you do business make a profit. That way, they'll
continue to be there when you want what they sell.

People who disparage business profit are usually expressing 'vulgar
Marxism,' i.e., they have unconsciously formed their ideas based on
the theories of communism. It's surprising how pervasive such beliefs
are in this country, which has benefitted so much because of
capitalism. Of course, a large part of the world's population has
learnt through hard experience what it is like to live under
communism. All it accomplished was to oppress and impoverish them.
That's why there are probably more Marxists to be found on the
faculties of American universities than there are left in the whole of
the former Soviet Union.

If you don't like the concept of businessmen making profits, you
should bear in mind that the alternative system has been tried, and it
doesn't work very well.
