Lloyd, dealing with Jack at AFN is never a hassle. It's dealing with
others who collect all sorts of not vital information and then send you
marketing emails on a daily basis that is.
A couple of months ago, in order to save time, I purchased a simple
outlet polarity and ground checker from a firm that mostly sells to
home inspectors. It was a 1-time, $20 purchase. Since that time my
mailbox (both email and USPS) has been swamped with offtering from that
company plus a dozen others.
That's sort of what I mean by the hassle.
Still, sometimes this has benefits if you use a dreamed up company
name. That way when mail arrives for "White Rabbit Productions" and
"ATC New England" it is easy to sort and throw directly into the trash.
On the positive side, White Rabbit Productions (my daughters alias) had
received free subsciptions to at least a dozen magazines that range
from Forbes and American Golfer to Black Enterprise! She simply takes
them into work and gives them away. ATC New England receives only junk
mail and corporate promotional material. For example, last week I
received an unsolicited box delivered by Federal Express at around 8:00
in the morning. Since I hadn't ordered anything and the box had been
shipped from England, I took it outside and opened it very cautiously.
Turned out that it contained about 4-inches of BP (as in British
Petroleum) financial reports, the background of each of the board
members, and about 6 promotional publications. Why it was sent to me
with such urgency is a mystery, other than I had requested an annual
report from Humble Oil only two weeks earlier.
It is a mystery to me why major players like these would be sharing
mailing lists, but obviously they do. Other than a few stock holdings
in firms like Marriott, GE, and Continental Gas, I really don't play in
this league. I really believe it is identity confusion, since another
person by the same name lives is the Boston area, and for obvious
reasons chooses to keep a very low profile. Mike S. will probably know
to whom I refer.
That's precisely what I meant by the 'hassle'.
Kindest regards, Harry C.
p.s., Sadly I am not that Harry Conover, nor am I even the model agency
guy that was married to Candy Jones. (Younger readers are by now
shaking their heads, having neither heard of "The Conover Girls" or
"Conover-Mast" publications.

Jim, if Lloyd does sell his book directly, I'll be one of the first to
send him immediate payment via Paypal. I really want a copy. Dealing
with the retail sellers is a hassle.
Harry, I can sell a few copies, but I cannot sell them for less than my
distributors do.
Jack Drewes does my printing, and always has copies in stock. Dealing with
AFN has never been a "hassle" to me. Since he's not a chemical supplier,
there's no "hassle factor".
