It's mostly hype and horse *** as is so common with the news media. There
are NO common chemicals that can make a liquid explosive by simple mixing
that would be powerful enough to breach an aircraft
Aren't concentrated nitric and sulfuric acids and glycerine common
chemicals? The acids are not *household* chemicals but they are
chemicals in common use industrially that are not difficult to obtain.
From an old rp post:
# You can do it very simply...
#
# 1) Mix equal parts (by volume -easy too) of fuming nitric and fuming
# sulphric acids.
#
# 2) Place in flask, beaker, etc, a goodly portion of the acid mixture.
#
# 3) add, dropwise, pure, anhydrous, glyerine. Stir *GENTLY* to mix.
The
# nitrated glycerne will float to the top, and the beads will evetually
# form a oil-like layer, just like salad dressing.
#
# 4) Repeat step 3 until you have a goodly amount. The stuff is
potent,
# a little goes a lot. A few cc's do a lot of damage (ask my cat!). If
# the stuff starts having trouble forming that oil-like layer, you're
in
# the danger zone - STOP!
#
# 5) Let the stuff settle and separate. If it doesn't - run! Carefully
use
# a droper to remove the top layer (nitroglycerine). Carefully add it
to
# a beaker of water to wash any acid free. Let separate again and
remove.
#
# Notes:
#
# Never make more than a cc at a time. Your asking for trouble.
#
# Never in strong light!
#
# Store nitro in fridge or freezer.
#
# Use ASAP.
What about acid plus hypochlorite? Not an explosive but it would
generate heaps of chlorine gas which would at least piss people off.
