Re: Western Winter Blast 17 DVD

No disrespect Sir! I think you got me wrong.
The samples on the website are pretty cool for a 25 guy TV crew whit all
that good stiff like cranes, tripods out of starwars, fancy com stuff and
atleast two studio trailers. You know... The works!
If this is just you and a few buddies doing it for kix, its awesome, in a
way that makes me think I should go there and try to find this guy just to
make sure he's real had it not been for the trip around the globe :/

I'm too tired right now to go through the hazzle with making a paypal acct
and stuff, but expect my order soon :D

Well, I'm a professional "fireworks videographer" only. I try to find
the best gear I can and get it to a place where good stuff is going to
happen and that I can release to the public. These videos partially
finance
the cost of the equipment that it takes to make them. (If I don't do
it, nobody
else will.)

Framing, picture quality and everything are hit or miss. I try to have
enough cameras going that I can both have at least one view that is
good at all times and enough overlap that I can smoothly edit between
the views without forcing an abrupt or inelegent cut. Fireworks
displays
are so large that it is hard to talk about framing everything. I try to
get a
medium closeup shot of 3/4 of everything that is going on that is nice
and
makes you feel close and personal.

I also really hate fast camera motions. I would rather miss a part of a
shell than have the camera in motion while the shell is developing so
it's impossible to keep the framing perfect. There are times for
fast camera motion but it has to follow the action or be prompted by
some catastophic event (e.g. a muzzle breaking 16).

Also typically it's raining, equipment is failling in minor/major ways,
sometimes there is a think layer of debrie covering the lenses and
ruining the shot. A battery or tape runs out about once every 16
minutes.

There are always things going wrong during these recordings and it's
a balance between just keeping things going technically wise, getting
good
shots in general and anticipating the next 15 seconds of choreography
so that
the cameras are already in the right position when the comet fronts
race back
and forth.

So, it's not so much a question of professional as really trying hard.

In Norway there are no such events, and you guys have several each year!
The video quality is some of the best I've seen, but after all, you are
professionals, yes?
From time to time the framing was maybe less then ideal, but all in all,
it
was cool.
I'm really considering ordering a copy!

SECAC omnimedia is pleased to announce that it is now
shipping its 2006 Western Winter Blast Convention video.
This video features all of the nightly demos including the
grand displays by Fireworks by Boom Boom Inc. and AM
Pyrotechnics.

There are also neat shows from Premier Pyrotechnics, Fireworks
America, Wolverine West and Lake Havasu Pyro. As always, we
record all the other evening pyro events and a bit of
open shooting. I'm also pleased to report that this
WWB 17 DVD is the sharpest/best focused/best DVD transfer we've
done to-date.

Even if you aren't interested in getting this DVD, you might
want to check out the videos we have on the website that
show a bit of open shooting and some Ghost Mines.

The website:
http://www.secac.com/119.0.html

Side note, for all you waiting for the PGI 2005 DVD it will be
done soon and it will have the same great DVD transfer as this
video.
