Re: Way OT ?? Help!

Lightnpyro,

You don't need to pay for good software...sometimes. The Lavasoft Ad-Aware
program has NEVER had any sort of spyware in it, Lavasoft is very
well-respected for a top-notch application. There are plenty of good
reviews out there, for example
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3003-2144_4-10399602.html?tag=tab_rev
and NO negative reviews. Ever.

Like I said, Harry is just plain full of ***. He hasn't a clue about what
he's senselessly blabbering about. But that's just Harry LOL

The Norton suite he talks about is rather amateurish and way too expensive
relative to the other solutions available.

If, between Spysweeper ( a good program!) and Ad-Aware you still have pop-up
problems, you very likely have a Browser Helper Object(BHO) surreptitiously
installed on your system. You might start here http://cexx.org/adware.htm
for more information.

But I think between Ad-Aware and Spysweeper, you should be OK. Forget the
expensive bloatware; it's just a waste of money.

Good luck.

Joe

Joe - Could you share a few specifics as to how Harry is so full of
***? This is important to me.

Better still, just drop $50 and purchase a copy of Norton Internet
Security (particularly if you have a high-speed cable internet
connection).

I tried the freeware products for amost a years, but found that most of
these created more problems than they solved. I found that Adaware is
particularly pernicious, once invited into your system. Beware! It took
Norton 3-days to clear out all of the spyware that Adaware had
implanted into my system.

The Norton product is particularly impressive in that on installation
it provides a tool in which their computer pretends it is a hacker and
bombards your computer for several minites, then provides you with a
report containing a listing of all of your system's vulnerabilities,
some of which were ports that I hadn't previously know existed, and
instructions on how to close them down or make them "stealthy" so they
cannot be either detected or exploited by a hacker or commercial
spammer posting pop-ups. This feature alone is well worth the cost of
admission.

Norton also provides frequent automatic virus signature updates
(typically twice a week), automatic and manually activated total system
scans, a rather strong firewall, and many other features.

Again, services this this are not cheap. In fact around $50 per year,
but in my experience well worth the cost. I run Limewire for about
24-hours a week, which exposes you to all sorts of malicious attacks.
Still, since installing this package, and while it has alarmed any
number of attacks on my machine, not one made it through the firewall
and virus detector.

Realize, I'm not selling this stuff. Simply sharing my experience. (I
have 3 250-Gbyte drives online at all times, so I can't risk their
contamination.)

I seem to be getting bombarded with popups from some jackwads calling

Any
ideas? Would it be a crime to BOMB THEIR FUCKING SERVER? Maybe the
Hezbollah would do it?
