Re: Ludlow Kissel and the Dage Bomb that struck back

Robert, I'm extremely sorry to learn that he has passed on.

In an unusual move for me, I let Limewire run overnight trying to
capture original recordings of some of Jean's broadcasts. I only
captured one, which is from its content a Christmas Eve broadcast that
Jean made years back on WOR Radio. Evidently is is an early precursor
to "A Christmas Story", complete with WOR advertising. The year of the
broadcast is not identified.

Nobody in my lifetime could spin a yarn like Jean. Then too, I suspect
that you needed to be raised in NY or NJ to appreciate the humor.

I shall continue the search this weekend.

Harry C.

p.s., Robert, if you would like to have a copy of this capture, email
me and I'll attach it to return email. (hhc3141 at yahoo.com)

It is a fact that during his WOR years, Jean was a very active ham
radio operator, as was I. I never had any QSOs with him, but as with
all of the ham operators of that day, he had been tested by the FCC as
capable of sending and receive morse code at 13 words/minitit or
faster. Hence the story of him whistling morse code to others is very
credible to me.

Oh, it wasn't a question that he COULD do it, or even that he WOULD.
I'm sure he DID, but I don't have time right now to explain how he
wound up denying EVERYTHING.

At that time I was K2JEZ, but while I knew it once, I've forgotten
Jean's call letters.

K2ORS.

Robert, I had a glimpse of Jean on some TV show a few years back, but
to your knowledge is he still living, working?

He died a few years ago. I saw his last Princeton U. show before his
death (probably his last public performance anywhere) about 2 years
later. He sounded in bad shape at that show. I don't know what his
illness was.

Robert
