I'm a newbie to pyrotechnics, and the most complex thing I've made is a
visco fuse rocket. Would it work to make a composition of dextrin and
airfloat charcoal to make kinda a weeping willow fountain that you hang
upside down? Would this work? Im attempting to make some sort of a
simple waterfall effect. If it wont work is there a way i could make it
work?
Presumably you want a gang of these matched in a line. How high off
the ground are you able to mount such a line? What you want is sparks
having a long way to fall, and doing so slowly rather than being fired
hard downward. I haven't heard of cascades of charcoal sparks, but
there's no reason it shouldn't work. The coarseness of the charcoal
should be adjusted to the distance the sparks can fall, and the
composition should be just vigorous enough to shed a lot, not to
thrust. Cases should be unchoked. If you can make them like lances to
burn down with the compo, so much the better to avoid thrust buildup.
It's not so bad if you miscalculate and the sparks burn all the way to
the ground, although if you can get them to burn out just before the
ground, that's very impressive.
