Re: Picture or video hosting?

Just to stop whatever confusion that might have arised:
I never intended the current site to be browseable or have a "download menu"
or anything like that.
If you upload more then one file from the same IP, all the uploaded files
are listed, to make it easier to copy all the links at once, to paste them
in the newsgroup.

Harry C: I really aprechiate you taking the time to upload the pdf
documents, but if you want people to see them, you should post the link to
them too (and possibly take the heat for copyright infringement :)
That way credits go where credits due, or something like that.

If you guys want it I'll add a "public" section too, where all the files can
be browsed from whitin the website.

Well...
I don't want to start a competition or anything, but I just finished the
website:
http://pyrotechnics.no-ip.org/

It's very easy to use. The whole idea is to have a site for people like
this: "Boy that picture I just took was really great. I'll show it to the
guys at rec.pyrotechnics right away, but I don't want to sign up at
photobucket or fuzz around whit ftp or alt.binaries"

Just browse the memory card for the file, hit Upload and copy the link.

I have seen in several posts that people have pictures or other material
they'd like to show to the group, but doesn't have any eficcient ways to
do this.

To my knowledge, there are several more or less complicated ways to do
it, but the rule of thumb seems to be that one need to register for the
service, and direct-linking is almost never possible.
The alt.binaries sections of usenet have been used sometimes, but it
requires that one have a special (not free) usenet service to obtain the
files.

My reason for bringing up this subject is that I have a dedicated
server that I'm hardly using for anything. It's on a full duplex 6
megabit link, that really need to see some constructive use soon.
One such use would be hosting pictures and/or video (or anything else
for that matter) that fireworks lovers would like to share.
It's going to be really simple to use. No registration required and no
banners or fancy scripts or anything to download it. Just paste the link
you get when the upload is completed, and there you go.

If I get two or more positive replies to this thread, I'll get to it,
and make the website.
