Mss, thanks for that excellent explanation.
I can believe that the "Lampi" shells that I puchased back in the 1950s
were of similar construct, and produced a relatively dark report but
nothing more. It suffices to say that their size was more impressive
than their performance. Quite fortunately, these were the runts of the
litter, which included many hundred far more spectacular shells, so in
no way was I 'ripped off''. IIRC, I paid $350 for the entire contents
of the fireworks factory, which included all of the chemicals on hand
and about 300 finished shells! Not a bad deal, even then. It helps to
be in the right place at the right time.
