We had WP that had been picked up by a haz-mat co for disposal. It had
been removed from a high school lab. My buddy was involved and gave me
some. It had a wax like appearance and feel to it and was packed in
water. If you took a wet piece and wrote on the sidewalk at night, the
line it left would glow for a bit. When we lit a chunk of a few grams
worth, it would almost instantly turn to liquid and burn with that
horrible smoke. A bigger piece may behave as you say? There is no
mistaking the smell of WP, before it's burned. I don't recall what the
smoke smelled like. I tried to avoid it. Note that the amount involved
here was prolly a bit over 3/4 of a teaspoon of liquid. Enough to burn
the crap out of my hand and inflame my pants. The snow may have just
smothered it or it may have burned out while aI thrashed about. A
large/larger amount would prolly have been a different story. With all
due respect, I was there and got hurt for my trouble!
The term "felt" may be incorrect but came from miltary paperwork I
was studying while sitting in the office of a munitions demil company.
I no recall the caliber or type of item that was described. I thought
that's what the material was described as felt. I'm guessing that
shells, etc, are pretty well air tight.
We could always duplicate the accident! You first?? hahahaha
