Re: Alcohol Based flames

Hi Guys,

Why people are adding Lithium carbonate to Methanol and then
they added HCL to it.Why not people directly using Lithium chloride
over methanol?
In addition, told u before my wick fails to work and the excess
chlorine content engulf the flame for red color.Do I need Sodium
Hydroxide Solution to neutralize the chlorine solution or do I go on
working Lithium Carbonate to react with HCL for red color flame to ber
worked well on fiberglass wicks?

True...no listing, just says "contains hydochloric acid". Not going to
be as pure as something that is needed to be pure for lab use etc.
Reminds me of when I asked the pottery shop about a chemical's
purity...her answer was "I am not sure...for our needs it does not
matter..."which is true for her, but for other people like me it does
in a lot of cases.

Just thought I would add that comment.

Muriatic acid from a hardware store isn't going to be as pure as
hydrochloric acid purchased from a lab supply either, as reflected in
their vastly differing prices. You might check the label and see what
it lists as contaminants, although it may not show them since they don't
matter for it's intended use.
