This is not a professional unit:
This was made on a whim and a beer, but saved a freebie show when the
high $ unit failed.
I hacked together a system based on a Honeywell thyrister driven photo
flash unit with two wiper contacts mounted on the bottom. This rides in
channels of a 'nail board' using pegboard and two rows of rivets
(contacts). While this is not a polished unit it does fire 10 igniter
chains, has 44 cues (limited by the length of pegboard), has no shared
grounds so it can't reverse flow ... no diodes, has a charge
indicator LED, produces a spike of around 1000V tapering quickly to
380V, only a keyed switch, wipers and fire button where added.
Continuity check is very easy using a meter producing way smaller
current than 'fire current'. The wipers have 'detents' (bumps)
so you can feel the rivets. Disadvantage besides the strange looks it
gets and no blinky lights, is the non-shared grounds require more cable
but I have lots of 22ga. 25 pair cable on hand. This has fired over 200
igniters on a charge.
Please excuse technical errors, as I don't play an electrical
engineer on any non-porn shows
.
