Re: Burned failed BP, strange reaction

Tim, in a hobby that can easily cause sudden death or disfigurement as
the result of an error in judgement or poor starting information, it
makes simple common sense to read a well respected textbook or two on
the subject before starting. Realize that had you chosen to use
something less inert than graphite in your mix, you could well be
reading my post using your one remaining eye or typing with the one or
two fingers remaining on your hand!

Granted that there are too many fools posting in this newsgroup, but
quite likely only a few will survive to become old fools if they remain
in this hobby! Most people who have worked with pyrotechnics for a
reasonable number of years know at least a few people who have become
victims of foolishness resulting from stupidity, ignorance,
carelessness, bad luck or some combination of all four. Some of these
are dead, others crippled in one way or another for life.

In this case it makes simple sense that when an ancient and proven
formula calls for charcoal, you can't substitute graphite no more than
you can safely substitute potassium chlorate for potassium perchlorate.
Realize that it is not stupidity but ignorance that causes someone to
make such a leap. There is a large difference between stupidity and
ignorance -- Ignorance can be cured through reading and education, but
stupidity lasts forever.

I am inclined to believe that, from your response to my post that you
are not exactly the brightest lightbulb on your street. Given this
fact, pershaps you should choose a new and safer recreational activity,
perhaps stamp collecting. That failing, at least purchase and read a
couple of good books on the subject of pyrotechnics prior to conducting
any more experiments.
