Sure, it applies. You have to wet the stars, right?

Many formulae bearing the "mag" moniker often contain magnalium rather than
straight magnesium. Magnalium is more docile, and less likely to cause you
trouble.

In fact, as a first try, you might substitute 325-mesh magnalium one-for-one
for magnesium, and see what happens.

If you're dealing with AP formulae, stick with the mix -- they're touchy.
If you're doing color "mag" compositions with potassium perchlorate or
nitrates, try the magnalium.
