Similarly _F & L in Las Vegas_ was my first-read and favorite book by

Do others find that the first-read of an author's books is often their
favorite?
Assuming the effect is real, there seem to be at least four plausible
and completely different explanations for it! What are they? (I'm not
asking which explanation is correct -- I suspect the different

I don't find this to be true. Then again, I don't read a lot of books,
mostly short stories, but, for example, my first Asimov was "I, Robot",
and it's far from my favorite Asimov, which is a toss-up between
"Foundation" and "The Gods Themselves".
Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle are consistently great, and of course,
the grand masters never get old.
