Alice, Bob, Carol and David are standing in the schoolyard.
Alice is 1 meter away from David.
David is 1 meter away from Bob.
Bob is 1 meter away from Carol.
Carol is as far from Alice as she is from David.
When Alice looks in the direction of Carol, Bob is obstructing
her line of sight.
How far are Alice and Bob ?

Robert Alice are the same person, or are on top of each other. It works, but
its probably not the solution you had in mind :-)
When Alice looks in the direction of Carol, Bob is obstructing
her line of sight. Thus Alice and Bob cannot be the same person.
Both Alice and Bob are one meter from David. Thus if Alice and
Bob were on top of eachother, they would have to have the same
altitude. They cannot be one on top of the other, as the top one
would be farther from David.
Let us presume that two humans cannot occupy the same location
at the same time. Thus Alice and Bob are not at the same location.
The misdirection here seems to be "obstructing her line of sight."
Let us suppose that this does not mean "is exactly in line with"
but rather "is close to exactly in line with, thus making it hard
to see by."
Then there is an obvious solution with A, D, and B in an equilateral
triangle, and C 1 meter from B along the perpendicular from the
side including A and D.
So to answer the question: Alice is 1 meter from Bob.
