Can PDP here stand for Parallel Distributive Processing? What some
hard-AI people (e.g. at MIT and similar) have hailed as a practical
assimilation of neural networking, and thus closer approximation of
human learning processes than ever before achieved? Seems a powerful
thing to have had in your room as a student in 1971-2.
Might PDP-11 really have been PDP-II, i.e. (roman) 2?- Hide quoted text -
No... PDP-2 and PDP-11 were two different computers in a series of
computers produced by DEC in the 60s to 90s. PDP standing in this
case for Programmable Data Processor. See:

Thanks. Have always intended to read up a bit on the history of IT. I
find the further back I go the more interesting it gets - perhaps
because the 'cruder' the technology the more hope there is of my
understanding something of it. (Written in full awareness that
'cruder' isn't the right epithet at all... 'more lacking in would-be
user-friendly veneer' perhaps better).- Hide quoted text -

Anytime. Less of the "history" though - you're making me feel old! I
used PDP-10s and PDP-11s in my earlier days!
