Today's puzzle is by Mass, a setter I often find tough. I gave up on
this one with 6 answers left, though it turns out this was partly down
to an unfortunate red herring answer.

I've been on the case for an hour and eight to go. Not going to be beaten by
it. Three more to get and I beat you Biddlemeister. That'll do me.
