N.B. I'm not giving the answers here, but my questions themselves
might be spoilers if you've not completed this. Be warned!
I've completed this. I'm used to occasionally having 1 or 2 clues
where I don't understand exactly how they work, but this one contained
6, so I thought I'd see if anyone else can enlighten me on how they
work:
Across
1. Race as hare-like creature? Or is it hard coming in 100mph? (4,8)
I can get the second word. Is "or is it" supposed to be the clue for
the first word (combining with the first four letters of the second)?
8. Power-grabbing person gaining at the expense of others (7)
No idea how the cryptic part of this works.
19. Beheaded king's old woman (5)
If this is supposed to be the king that Romulus killed, a) it's not
exactly the first king that springs to mind and b) by the standard
English spelling of the name, it's missing the required last letter.
Or am I missing this completely?
24. Skin condition I get after period of abnormal eating (7)
How does "get" become "go"?
Down
4. Transplant material sent to hospital department (5)
Tope is a material. ER is a hospital department. Where's the
instructions to drop an E and then invert the whole lot? Or is "REP"
a material I've never heard of and OT a hospital department
(occupational therapy)? Whichever, this seems a very thin clue.
15. Dangerous to humans? Roy is so brutal to chap as a gypsy? (3-6)
Assuming the second sentence is the cryptic bit (the first is a good
match for the straight part) I've absolutely no idea how this works!
Any help, anyone?
Cheers,
Matthew
