Why the heck would you buy anything from Ritz?
Why should there be a problem? I've bought several cameras and
camera-related items from Ritz online. Never had a whisper of a
problem, and the price has always been competitive.

If a higher price is competitive then yes you are correct. Two cameras at
random:
Canon XSi /W 18-55
Ritz - $799.00 vs $689.99 - BnH
Nikon D700
Ritz - $2,999.99 vs $2,899.99 - BnH
That's not the way I buy things. I compare prices on what I want when
I want it, and I factor in shipping and sales tax for the total price.
On the items that I did purchase, Ritz was equal or lower in total
cost than B&H or other reputable sources *at the time of purchase*.
I would be quite willing to buy from B&H, but not if it costs me more
for the same item.
The fact that B&H may be lower on something that I don't intend to
purchase has no effect on my buying decision on what I am buying.
Bret just plunked down a big ol' wad of cash for something he's not going to
see for months. To me that's a problem. You can charge me when you ship it.
They (Ritz) do. The transaction is a pending sale on your card, but
not charged to your card, until it is shipped. I would expect B&H to
do the same. A pending sale transaction reduces the upper limit of
your card by that amount so that the sale amount will go through at
time of shipment.
If you have a $5,000 upper limit on your Visa card, a pending sale of
$3,000 reduces that limit to $2,000 in other purchases. The buyer
should know that this is the practice of most businesses that accept
credit cards for future delivery/billing.
Check into a major hotel chain sometime, Jim. The hotel will put a
pending amount on the credit card you check in with to cover your
expected bill when you check out. It will be in excess (sometimes
greatly in excess) of what your actual bill turns out to be.
This is often a complaint voiced by tourists down here in Florida.
They think they have a max chargeable amount on their credit card and
find out that their hotel has placed a pending amount that has reduced
that max chargeable amount.
Neither the camera store nor the hotel wants to find out that the
amount of the charge won't go through when it's time to ship or after
you've received the service.
